Beautiful Spring Picnic Ideas
Spring Picnic Location
For this picnic, I wanted somewhere that gave the feeling of a spring meadow. Nestled under the roof of two large willow trees, the atmosphere was whimsical.
Here we were protected from the elements slightly, and even though there was a road only 200 meters away, it felt secluded and inviting.
If you want to know more about choosing the location, read How to Create a Cute Picnic Setup.
Spring Picnic Invitations
This Invitation was specifically designed with the Spring Picnic in mind.
It works perfectly with the theme, yet is versatile enough that it could be used for a variety of parties or picnics.
This template is fully customizable and can be purchased from my Etsy store.
This invitation is an adorable option for the classic picnic.
It is easy to recognize immediately its purpose and the design evokes the feeling of being on the picnic already.

Spring Picnic Decorations
The decorations for this picnic were so simple. In fact, I didn’t purchase anything new!
All the decorations were functional and easily found from around the house.
Things like dried flowers, cute cushions, and the staging of the food all come together to create this adorable soft spring aesthetic.
Again I outline all this in so much more detail in the post How to Create a Cute Picnic Setup.
Picnic Activities for Friends
Cake Decorating
Cake decorating was a super fun way to hit off our afternoon picnic.
These mini strawberry shortcakes were created from a normal strawberry shortcake recipe, which I divided into smaller tins to make.
The girls had a blast as I instructed them step-by-step on how to put them together. And of course, it became a competition of whose cake was the prettiest!
This was also a very helpful activity for me as these cakes are best transported disassembled. Therefore the many hands truly made light work of this delightful picnic dessert.
What’s Needed:
Cake components: Cakes, Cream, and Strawberries – The quantity and recipes are from the Strawberry Shortcake recipe. I poured 140 grams of batter into 12cm cake tins. Bake time was roughly the same as in the recipe. By making enough batter for 1 1/2 cakes I ended up with 14 layers, enough for 7 mini cakes.
Spoons – For spreading cream and distributing strawberries.
Plates – For display and serving.
Paper Towels (optional) – great to have on hand!
Step 1: Add Cream and Strawberries
Invite your guests to generously spread a layer of cream over their cake base.
They will then add an even layer of the sliced sugared strawberries.
Step 2: Adding the Second Layer
Now for the second layer. Make sure your guests place it as evenly as possible on top of the cake.
Step 3: The Top Layer of Cream and Strawberries
Finally, add another generous layer of cream. Finish by topping with fresh-cut strawberries on a pile at the top.

Spring Hair Do’s
The main activity of the afternoon was having some quality girl time braiding, pinning, and decorating each other’s hair.
I don’t know about you but I love people doing my hair!
The guests were sent a smaller card detailing the color scheme and what to bring, along with their invitation. I asked that, if possible, they bring their hair brushes and any pins or hair ties that could be used.
Hopefully, your girlfriends are brimming with their own creative hairstyle! But if not, I’ve designed a free printable “Romantic Hairstyle Inspiration” sheet which could be printed and had on hand for guests.
The materials you’ll need for this activity are:
Hairbrushes, pins, and hair ties – Ask guests to help by bringing what they already have. Also, good to give them some warning to have their hair fresh and ready to be done! I recommend also buying a packet of tiny hair ties and bobby pins to make sure you have enough.
Dried flowers – You could also use fresh flowers. The bonus of dried flowers, however, is that they easily slip into the hair and they make great keepsakes for your guests to treasure afterward.
Inspiration sheet (optional) – Other options would be your guests just having a quick scroll of Pinterest, or you could borrow some hairstyling books from the library to give you detailed instructions.
Mirror – We used a large mirror which was great for the girls to see how their do’s looked, but also for cute selfies at the end! You could also consider vintage hand-held mirrors as these would be easy to transport and so picture-perfect!
The props of the dried flowers and the large mirror were perfect for this event as they were both functional for the activity and gorgeous in photos!
The girls did a fantastic job taking turns doing each other’s hair and then having their own done. They did so well I’ve included a few extra photos of the finished products for your inspiration.
